Book Summary
This stock market parable will clarify the benefits of investing in stocks and investing in the Kingdom of God. The author, who has been a licensed stockbroker for 12 years, uses personal stories, some of which are very humorous, to emphasize the correlation between spiritual and financial principles. Many individuals view investing in the stock market as gambling, but the author explains that there is a difference in playing the market and investing in the market, just like there is a difference in playing with God or playing church and actually investing your life in the Kingdom of God. There are true life stories in the book that illustrate how generational blessings can come for those who choose to fully commit their life to the Lord but on the other hand there are stories of the disastrous results when one plays with God.
A business idea always starts as a private investment; once a business is incorporated shares are issued in exchange for money. Going public allows a company to raise substantial amounts of money for expansion projects or to pay-off debt. Once a company is public anyone can purchase shares. Heaven was first privately held and only available to the Jews then God sent Jesus Christ to complete a public offering (IPO) on the cross so that all could invest their life in the Kingdom of God. God uses our life to build his kingdom and in return he makes us joint heirs of Heaven.
Heaven, similar to a blue chip, is the stock to buy if you want to secure a comfortable eternal retirement. It is a stock investment that makes sense both fundamentally and technically. Hell on the other hand is like Enron, those who invest in it will get burned.
The important thing in Christianity is to have Jesus Christ in your life; He is the way to an abundant and everlasting life. On Wall Street, the important thing is owning stocks in your investment portfolio which increases your profit potential. Stocks outperform all other investments in the long run, just like Christians -- those who have Christ in their life-- outperform sinners in the long run.
The author tells how clients have gone from rags to riches by simply being steadfast with their investments. Christians have bull and bear market seasons or periods of forward progress and periods of setbacks just like stock market investors. Steadfast Christians bounce back from setbacks like the stock market does.
Included is an insightful test for the reader to determine their risk tolerance for investing and their risk tolerance for life’s temptations. Also there is a section for the reader to complete a financial and spiritual assessment of their personal life. A helpful glossary of investment terms is located at the back of the book.
If you can trust Merrill Lynch to manage your money in an uncertain market, then you can trust Jesus Christ to manage your life in an uncertain world. When Heaven Went Public is one of the most profound books ever written on the stock market for both new and sophisticated investors! It is a book divinely inspired by God. If you have never understood the market or what it means to be a Christian, you will after reading this book.
